CaravanSatNav.com is an independent review site with one job: to help caravan, campervan and motorhome owners buy the right sat nav without wading through jargon or marketing spin. We’ve been reviewing dedicated camper sat navs since 2015, and in that time we’ve assessed more than 40 devices from Garmin, TomTom, Snooper, Aguri and others.
We’re owners ourselves, so we look at these devices the way you would: not as gadgets on a spec sheet, but as the thing that decides whether your day ends on the right pitch or wedged under a low bridge on a road you should never have been sent down.
How we test and rate
Every device we recommend goes through the same routine. We set up each sat nav from scratch with a real motorhome profile – height, width, weight and length – and check how sensibly it routes around genuine hazards: low bridges, weight limits, narrow lanes and low-emission zones. We use them on real journeys in the UK and on the continent, not just around the block, because a sat nav that looks great in the driveway can fall apart on a wet motorway junction.
Alongside the hands-on driving, we dig into the things that matter over the years you’ll own the device: how complete the campsite and stopover databases really are, how painless map updates are, how readable the screen stays in bright sun, and whether the interface is something you can operate at a glance without taking your eyes off the road.
The five things we score
Every model gets a rating out of five, built from five criteria we weigh equally:
- Vehicle-aware routing – how accurately it plans around your outfit’s size and weight, and how well it avoids restrictions.
- Campsite & POI databases – how many sites, aires and stopovers are built in, and whether the specialist directories (ACSI, the clubs, Camperstop) are included.
- Screen & readability – size, resolution and how clear it stays in daylight and at a glance.
- Ease of use – how quickly you can enter a destination, understand the guidance and change settings while under way.
- Value for money – what you actually get for the price, including free lifetime map updates and any camera bundles.
How we stay independent
This site is funded by affiliate commission. When you buy through a “Buy on Amazon” link, we may earn a small commission – at no extra cost to you. That’s what keeps the reviews free to read and free of intrusive advertising.
Crucially, that commission is the same regardless of which model you choose, so we have no reason to steer you toward anything but the device that genuinely suits you best. If a popular product isn’t very good, we say so; when an older model is discontinued, we tell you and point you to the current equivalent rather than sending you to a dead listing. You can read the full detail in our affiliate disclosure.
Who’s behind the reviews
CaravanSatNav.com is an independent site run by fellow caravan and motorhome owners. We keep the focus on the reviews rather than on personalities – what matters is that the advice is genuinely independent, grounded in hands-on use and research, and kept up to date as models come and go. Every recommendation here is one we’d be happy to make to a friend at the next pitch.
Spotted something out of date, or want a model reviewed? Get in touch – we keep our reviews current and genuinely value reader feedback.
