We've updated this review to cover the 795, the model most owners buy and the one currently rated best motorhome sat nav on the market by Practical Motorhome.
The Camper 795 is specifically designed for caravan and motorhome drivers, with vehicle weight and size management and camper-specific points of interest built in. It has a 7-inch multi-touch display, and many listings bundle it as the Garmin CamperCam 795, which adds a built-in dash cam with forward collision and lane departure warnings - useful in its own right, and handy for insurance purposes if you're ever unlucky enough to need footage.
The device comes with comprehensive campsite lists from ACSI and CamperContact. The built-in campsite search is still genuinely useful, letting you filter for sites offering what you need for your journey, such as electric hook-up or Wi-Fi.

All itineraries provided by the Garmin Camper 795 are calculated according to the weight and size of your motorhome, caravan or campervan. The detailed maps of Europe include restrictions that caravan and motorhome drivers regularly face, like weight limits, narrow roads or bridge heights. The itineraries and personalised guidance take into account the specifics of the vehicle you are driving.
On first launch, you're prompted to enter your vehicle's profile information (weight, size...) in an intuitive configurator. Once that's done, the system plans itineraries compatible with your caravan or motorhome and gives personalised warnings about relevant hazards such as steep hills, tree overhang or sharp curves.
You can create several profiles for different vehicles - for example one named "Motorhome" and one named "Motorhome + trailer" - and switch between them easily.
Is the Garmin Camper 795 easy to use?
The device shows the current speed limit specific to your vehicle, your true current speed, and a reliable estimated time of arrival. The smartphone-like touchscreen makes it easy to pan across the map to find points of interest or preview the upcoming route. If you're comfortable using a smartphone, the Camper 795's menus will feel immediately familiar.
The Garmin Camper 795 offers great guidance
The Camper 795 carries over the Lane Guidance Garmin's camper range is known for. The correct lane for our route was clearly indicated with bright contrasted arrows and voice prompts, making it easier to anticipate exits and complicated junctions, especially with the photorealistic junction views.
It also includes Garmin's "Real Directions" and "Real Voice" technologies, designed to guide you the way a friend in the passenger seat would - directions reference recognisable landmarks like buildings or traffic lights ("Turn right at the traffic lights"), and the voices sound noticeably more natural than the "robotic" tone of older sat navs.
Free traffic information and lifetime map updates
This is a sat nav you can update for free, for life. That matters, because paying for map updates on some rival devices can add up over the years you own it. It means you'll stay up to date with the latest maps and points of interest, and that campsite and campground information stays reliable.
As with previous Garmin camper models, you can update maps without plugging the unit into a computer - built-in Wi-Fi lets you connect at home and download updates directly from the device.
Live traffic works through your paired smartphone via the free Garmin Drive app, using your phone's data connection - no subscription required. Do check your data plan when travelling abroad, since you'll be using your phone's own internet connection for this.
Efficiency of the live services
Once the Garmin Drive app is installed on your Android or Apple device, the Camper 795 connects to live services for more detailed traffic, live parking information and weather forecasts. These services are free, but they use your phone's internet connection, so it's worth checking your data plan, particularly abroad.
Efficiency of the hands-free system and voice control
Voice control works exactly as on previous Garmin camper models: say "Voice command" and the unit shows a list of voice-activated controls, letting you plan a route, adjust the volume or change screen brightness hands-free. Once your phone is paired via Bluetooth, notifications and messages can be displayed on the Camper's screen, so you don't need to touch your phone.
The hands-free phone feature offers decent call quality through the built-in speaker, though as with most sat navs, the built-in microphone isn't quite up to the standard of a dedicated, factory-mounted unit.
TripAdvisor and points of interest along your route
You can read useful information on nearby addresses - restaurants, shops, service stations - including points of interest and user ratings from TripAdvisor. It's genuinely useful to have TripAdvisor reviews for places along your route right there on the device.
Compatible with an optional reversing camera
The Garmin Camper 795 is compatible with Garmin's official wireless cameras (BC30 and BC40), sold separately. Once paired, these display the camera feed on the Camper's screen whenever reverse gear is engaged.

Garmin's current camper range is built around three screen sizes, with the rest of the feature set shared across all three:

Garmin Camper 795 motorhome sat nav: Our opinion
The Camper 795 continues to build on what made Garmin's earlier camper models good: a comprehensive, well-thought-out POI database, genuinely useful lane guidance, and free lifetime map updates that save real money over the years you own it. The TripAdvisor integration remains our favourite feature - having real user reviews for nearby places, right on the sat nav, is more useful than it sounds. Against its main current rival, the TomTom GO Camper Max, we'd give the Camper 795 the edge on POI depth and guidance polish, which is why it remains our top pick for most motorhome and caravan drivers. If you'd like a bigger screen, look at the Camper 895 or Camper 1095 instead.
