Additional information about these motorhome and caravan sat nav devices

You may be wondering why some models come with Wi-fi. This wireless technology is used for downloading map and POI updates on the Garmin models and to send the video data from the optional reversing camera when installed.

All the motorhome and caravan sat navs we have reviewed come with a ‘Car Mode’ allowing you to use the device in your car as well.

Both Garmin and Snooper use maps provided by Here. Here is a mapping software company which used to be called NavTeq and that is owned by Nokia. Here make very regular changes to their maps with over 2.5 million updates per year. This is done thanks to thousands of employees who drive in over 50 different countries. The Here software can be found in many navigation system from different brands and comes pre-installed on some vehicles such as BMWs or Toyotas for example.

Campsite lists and Points of interest (POI)

ACSI, MHF, Bord Atlas, The Caravan Club logos. These companies provide motorhome and caravan sat nav with databases for campsite lists and POIs

The Garmin models come with over 20,000 specific Points of interest for caravan and motorhome drivers such as campsites and campgrounds. The devices are preloaded with data from ACSI and MHF (Motorhome Facts) and the user can add extra POIs if needed. Visit the Garmin download page here.

The Snooper models comes with a very comprehensive database but also allow you to download extra user POIs. To do so, you will need to use the supplied Snooper software and install it on your computer.
